Why wont my sky max hub connect to my sky q box using wps?

Because it isn't compatible with the Q mesh.

The Max Hub doesn't have the proprietary AirTies technology which went into the Q Mesh, but WPS doesn't need that: it's a global standard and should work just fine as long as the Hub and the main Q box are in range of each other and both WPS buttons have been pressed briefly (because a long press on the Max Hub WPS button acts as a router reset)
