Gigafast or not

I Currently have the Gigafast with the hub 4 and sky q.

I struggle to get good WiFi on the 2nd floor for things like gamepass and downloads. We have a ground floor , 1st floor and 2nd floor the router is based on the ground floor. I have ethernet connection to the Xbox on the first floor,and would like good speed for fire stick gamepass on the 2nd floor.

Would reducing to a 500mb connection and get hub max be beneficial.

My offer is £42 for Gigafast but no max hub. They did offer £46 with max hub but I don't want to pay any more

Try using the ethernet cable that you're currently using for the Xbox to move the router to the first floor. Being more central should help with the WiFI signal.

Not sure how to add a photo , but do you mean put my cable that's currently going in to the wan port on the router in the ethernet port which goes upstairs to the ethernet port which I have my Xbox connected to then add a ethernet cable to the wan port on the router?

Although obviously if you have a patch panel serving other rooms, you'll lose that.

Typically in new builds, full fibre comes into a cupboards with a patch panel that distributes ethernet to the rooms. So just a group of typically four ethernet sockets that are then wired to four rooms in the house.

The black wire on the left goes to my WAN port.

i have port 1 going to this ethernet port 👇

which leads to the floor above which I have my Xbox ethernet cable to.

So if I put the Wan cable in the port above then put that cable into router Wan instead of Xbox it should work?

I think so but to be sure:

ONT LAN > Ethernet port on wall

Ethernet port on first floor > WAN port on router

You can then use one of the spare LAN ports on the router to feed the Xbox or you may find that WiFI is sufficient, as they'll be close together.
