Replacement Router not completing WAN connection

So last week SKY emailed saying my SR102 Router needed replacing.

After a phone call they shipped an SR203

I got the impression this would be a simple swap. However

I configured the new router to look exactly like the old one on my home network:

IP address - 192.168.1.1

admin password - changed from default

wifi SSID - changed to my home LAN

DHCP range - changed for my LAN

Everything I could think of.

So then I swapped it in.

Looked OK BUT the broadband connection to the WAN doesn't complete

In the Connection Status window

Connecting to Server stays at Connecting

IPv4 Address stays at 0.0.0.0

IPv4 Network Mask stays at 0.0.0.0

On the Router Status Screen

Modem Status Connected

Traffic Type:PTM

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps):19999

Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps):79999

Waited about 30 mins then reverted to the old SR102 router - which came back up.

Any ideas as to what I haven't done. Or what I have done that I shouldn't have?

It would have been easier to set up your devices to search for your new network name and connect to them using the netwok key password that came on the card with the hub. This is what I did when I set mine up last week.

Given we've seen recent posts of Sky sending out obviously used routers, a factory reset seems a good place to start.

Just to be clear

I did change the SSID but I've disabled both wifi access points. I don't need the router's wifi.

Current connection looks like

Modem

Modem Status Connected

Traffic Type:PTM

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps):19999

Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps):79999

(removed)

Broadband Port

(removed)

Network TypeMER

(removed)

IPv6 Domain Name Server

(removed)

So if I simply plug in another Sky router where does any authentication take place?

Do I have an individual 'MER' username/password stored somewhere in the router's firmware?

Is it the MAC address of the router?

Is it the generic Username: abcdefgh@skydsl Password: 1234567890abcdef ?

As well as connecting this replacement I'd like to hace a hot spare I can simply swap in in case of a problem. Its obviously possible as some customers connect suing third party router/modems.
