I have a Sky Max router ( white ), still not providing Wi-Fi to extremes. I received a range extender from Sky which has two Ethernet ports, can I connect it to the router via one of the ports

Yes, but unless that's a long ethernet cable to move the pod into another room it won't make any difference. The signal from a 'range extender' is itself no more powerful than that broadcast by a router because WiFi power output is regulated by national legislation. Ideally an 'extender' needs to be halfway between wireless source and client device.
