It's 100% not his computer. The WiFi signal is too weak and drops out in his office.

Well here's an odd one.

My Dad has taken out Sky WiFi Max (fttp) but the wi-fi signal is very weak in his upstairs office (the router is downstairs).

A Sky Engineer came out today and basically said it was his computer's fault and didn't give him a wifi pod as a result.

This is untrue as the printer in the office also struggles with the WiFi in that room too.

So.... sky are phoning my dad back tomorrow as a follow up so hopefully they will just send him a pod.

But, if they dont, what is a good (yet cheap!) WiFi extender that will be compatible with a Sky Max router (ie the white one)? Ideally he needs a small plug'n'play model as my dad is elderly and just wants the WiFi to work!

Its impossible to call any cheap 3rd party extender plug & play because they are all essentially landfill. Usually do more harm than good to your connection.

What computer does he have?

I am not trying to blame the computer I was just curious as to why the engineer might blame the PC. Perhaps its only single band b/g/n WiFi or the engineer expected it to be WiFi 6.

The printer also struggles to connect to the WiFi.

I'm amazed too that he didn't just fit a booster but told my dad that he'd need to pay a fiver a month for it. I'll try a WiFi extender and see.

I feel bad as I recommended Sky to my dad and he's had a terrible service with them so far. Openreach made a pigs ear of the fibre fitting and even the Sky Q box sent through the post was faulty and had to be replaced.
