topic Bad wifi in Broadband

Hi,

I pay a lot of money for Sky wifi. I don't get wifi in my lounge or bedroom because the genius that installed BT Openreach put it in a cuboard. I have one wifi booster which I also pay for, however the wifi isn't strong enough to even connect to the booster.

Its an absolute joke. Every time I speak with someone they just say 'I can see you're receiving 500mbps'. This doesn't matter if the wifi box has to be kept in a cupboard behind multiple doors.

I need something to resolved ASAP or I'll cancel my subscription.

If you received the first Sky booster under one of the relevant Sky WiFi Guarantees then you are entitled to request more (and/or an installer visit to fit them)

The key is to insist this is a claim under that particular guarantee ('Broadband Boost' or 'Enhanced Wall to Wall', not the 'Guaranteed Minimum Download Speed' which relates to speed delivered to the Hub over optical and ethernet cable.

Note however that the WiFi Guarantees don't oblige Sky to repeatedly attempt to resolve such an issue: they can ultimately offer a refund of the add-on instead.

For reference, Sky loans wireless booster hardware free under the terms of the 'WiFi Guarantee' element of the legacy 'Broadband Boost' add-on and the 'Enhanced Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' part of the 'WiFi Max' subscription supplement: they don't otherwise provide or sell boosters except to resolve issues with Sky Q. Phoning Sky to go through a telephone diagnosis is required to have a booster or pod allocated to the account. Inevitably some Sky booster hardware has leaked onto a certain auction site and elsewhere online, but Sky won't offer support with using these.

Confusingly the default 'Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' bundled with all new Sky Broadband orders where Boost or Max is not added by the customer doesn't actually provide booster hardware, and is essentially a sales lead generator for the supplements mentioned above plus a one month broadband subscription refund.

One potential improvement, if practical, would be to use a hole and a longer ethernet cable to position the Sky Hub outside that enclosure, but Sky probably won't offer to do that themselves.

It's also possible (but not strictly speaking permitted) to extend an incoming optical pigtail using an easily available retail kit.
