I am a new customer,just received my sky box,l think it is glass hub..?can l record on it programmes l am not watching,people telling me it's only good for recording what you are watching

If that's a Stream puck (rear as below ) then it uses the Playlist system: this means some content will 'record' at the Sky server level while other items will play back from a channels own on-demand system (and a small percentage of content isn't available after broadcast at all)

It's certainly not limited to just what you are watching at the time.
