If you are watching content on Sky Go at the same time as performing the test then that will impact the speeds reported, as for the test getting confused try testing with only 1 computer connected and only that 1 connection, if it still reports <35Mbps throughput then report a fault. Sky Go in HD takes about 7-10Mbps throughput.

Watching sky go and signal dropped 15 mins ago. Tried to open "my sky" app and no service. Have kept trying to load chrome and have eventually got back online. However still can't watch anything on sky go. Have done tests on uswitch and bt wholesale and they're reporting 8mps download speed. My Sky app flashes up a red triangle when testing my broadband but still insists I've got around 43mps download speed. I'm not an IT numpty, who's lying to me???

@JPMbraemead

The Speedtest on Uswitch is a little conservative on tests just performed about 5 minutes ago by about 25-40% which is the top speed test, my results show this in the speed test below. But Sky's estimate that you are getting 42Mbps is also a little high, so that's wrong as well.

I suspect a fault with the broadband line but test the speed with speedtest.net and you should get about 35Mbps if you don't get that speed report a fault to Sky...

Further to earlier post, have tested download speed by all and sundry via internet and have never got above 20mps. My sky app comes up with red triangle when testing my download speed and message "there appears to be a problem with your broadband", but then insists I'm getting around 40mps. Can details of this be requested from sky? Intermittent problems are understandable, but it really hacks me off when it's blatant "lies".

Can these results be challenged to find who's right and wrong? I'm presuming tests of this sort will be time stamped and held on account to refer to Ofcom.

If you aren't over WiFi then that is most certainly a fault, a 43Mbps synchronisation speed doesn't equate to only 20Mbps throughput, it should be about 35Mbps with the overhead mentioned by @daveNOS As for contention that shouldn't occur with a 43Mbps connection the local box is feed with fibre, and the available bandwidth is much higher than that for the customers locally, 2.5Gbps fibre connection to the cabinet as a minimum for about hundred customers.

How would what is happening in my property (I'm sat in a chair looking at sky go) have any impact on my ability to view content via the app or to access the internet via chrome???? Why would the my sky app refuse to load for around 12 minutes and now finally report a download speed of 40ish mps but I still can't view content on sky go??
