Does the sky max pod have an Ethernet in port?
I've a cat 5 connection from the router to the wifi 'dead zone', I'm wondering if I could connect this pod via Ethernet to give me better wifi in that office?

I believe the pods actually have two ethernet ports.

Yes, that should work.

Hi, thanks for the quick response, I'm led to believe the two ports are Ethernet out to devices not Ethernet in to create a new zone in my office, have you tried it this way round?

My broadband is with BT, but I'd think the Max pods are specified as bridges for ethernet-in as well as out. All previous Sky booster models have that functionality.

It'll be delivered soon so I'll let you know how we get on, the sky tech guy didn't seem to think you could use it like that but he wasn't sure.👌

Did you get an answer to this from the Sky guy?

I got a pod today and I've tried plugging a laptop into it, but it doesn't detect a LAN port.

There's a frustratingly small amount of info about these things on the web

@Fred123456789000 as delivered the pods need a period to download firmware and optimise the connection to the hub this can take a few hours As I understand it the pods will work as a WiFi to Ethernet bridges. The pods are made by Plume but are running custom firmware developed by Comcast and adapted by Sky.

Did you get an answer to this, I have ordered a Pod as can't get wifi in an office room in awkward wifi place, plan is to run Cat 6 ethernert cable from router to Sky Max Pod to generate wifi in office room, is this possible? Does the max pod have ethernet in? if not what would the solution be?

Thank you, so running a Cat 6 ethernet cable from router to it will generate better wifi in that area, there was some notes above which referenced the max pod only has ethernet out not in which I did not fully understand

Hi,

Did this set up work?

I also have an outbuilding that Inwish to get internet access to. I have a Sky Q mini in the outbuilding along with a sky pod. Which in connected back to another sky pod back in the home using a run of cat 6 network cabling. This however does not work and will not offer internet connectivity in the outbuilding.

Is there anything I can do to get this in the outbuilding? With my previous (non max) set up, it worked seamlessly with the booster being connected using the cat 6 cable but since upgrading to the max set up,not doesn't work anymore which is very frustrating.

I have seen on another forum post, the suggestion of using a WAP in the outbuilding which is connected using the cat 6 cable run, with the one end being connected to a pod in the home. Would this work?

Any advice anyone can give would be much appreciated.

Hi mate, I'm sorry to say, it's still not working as expected. I'm still having to use an old TalkTalk router set as an access point, connected via the CAT6 cable. To be fair, this is giving me the speed I'd expect.

So, if you've got an old router, I'd suggest that...

@Bails147 What you are trying to do then the new Sky Max pods will NOT be playing well, And it is the ONE just inside the home that is doing so, Either extend the Ethernet cable back to the main Sky Max hub, or if speed is not going to be a killer you could try to powerline between the Pod and the Hub, but for sure i would get at least a powerline with TWO ethernet ports as a minimum.

Sorry, if I've missed something.

Currently I've had to use an old router, set as an access point, at one end of the house, connected via CAT6 cable. It's giving me speeds over 800Mbs.

When I try to connect the Sky Max Pod to the same cable, it will not give me speeds anywhere near that!

The Sky engineer tried to sort it too.

He couldn't get it to work either.

He mentioned that this was a known issue and they'd release a firmware update in June. His advise was to keep doing what I'm currently doing till then...

@Masterjee Your scenario is not the same as the one for @Bails147 is trying to do and achieve from his older Sky system to the newer sky max control, the pods and the old sky Q mesh work completely different.

Thank you for the replies.

It is not possible for me to extend the Ethernet cable all the way back to the hub as the location of the hub and fibre port does not allow this.

How would I use the powerline adapters with the pods? I have connected one to the hub and the other into the outbuilding which is approximately 20m away but there appears to be no connection.

I have also connected one of the sky max pods, to the other, using the run of Ethernet cable between my house and the outbuilding but that doesn't work either. Granted, the pod in the home is not connected to the router via Ethernet. Could that be the issue?

I just don't understand, before I upgraded to the max set up, The old (white) booster was in my kitchen, wirelessly connected to the router and then I hard wired using Ethernet from the booster to my sky Q mini box in the outbuilding and everything worked fine as well as having internet connection in th outbuilding. Sky told me I would be able to do the same with the new max set up but clearly I can't.

can I revert back to my old set up do you think? I still have the old equipment.
