Users piggybacking on my IP address

Hi all

Can I ask how I change my IP address please? I have various devices connected to my internet but there have been other users piggybacking on my internet and now apparently I have a Trojan horse...... Can anyone please advise with a fix.

@deelou If you have a trojan it would most likely be as a result of clicking on a suspect link rather than anyone sharing your con ection.

What makes you think someione is sharing your connection? How do you know you have a trojan on your device?

First the trajan you need to run a virus scan.

What makes you think other people are using your connection.

How did you come to that conclusion.

If someone is on your network that shouldn't be the chances are it's over WiFi so change the WiFi password.

You could run something like Fing first. That will give you a lost of every IP on your network and will tell you what a lot of them are. Apparently you need to run it on a PC to identify the devices now though.

My driver for my new printer keeps failing & won't install.

Ran a systems check and it listed others using IP address and a Trojan?

@deelou hopefully you have internet security software running on devices like laptops phones or tablets if somrun a scan but Insuspect the install for your printer is giving a false warning. The best tool I have found to clear nasties like trojans id Malwarebytes.

Out of interest if you haveca white Sky Max hub can you post what printer this is please? The reason why I ask is Sky have a introduced system for sharing IP4 addresses on those units which is 100% safe and necessary as there are a limited number of these addresses. This doesnt apply to the older black hubs.

I have a very old black router, I've been with sky for many years!

The printer is HP & yes I use security for my devices but will be spending some time today running health checks!

@deelou thanks didnt think it was down tomthe MAP-T introduction but I wanted to check.

My views of HP printers' software cannot be shared without invoking the forum's content filters. Quite why they can build decent printers but cannot write decent control systems defeats me.

Hi @deelou This 'systems check' you ran sounds very typical of a scam tool that scammers use to 'scare' you into thinking you have other 'IPs' on your network. Its usually bogus.

I think you may have downloaded a scammed tool from what you are saying.

Just some good anti virus software and run that.

If that other "tool" tells you ring click or ring someone for help DON'T!!!
