Adding a second router as wifi is not good

Hi everyone👋, Firstly, I have no idea what I need to do what I want to do so please be kind🙏. I have a Sky Q Max Hub as my main router and 900mbps speed which I am very happy with. I also have a white sky wifi booster (I think) in my sun lounge which I am not happy with as wifi is still slow🤷‍♂️. I read that adding a second router would be much better as I could plug my devices into it instead of using wifi but totally confused on how to change the settings on the second router or which router I have to buy as I also read that I can't add the same type of router (Sky Max)😳. I have bought a length of 6a RJ45 Lan cable and intend to go Lan to Lan but can someone please tell me what router I need and step by step instructions for dummies on what I have to do please🙏 Many thanks

@Steve+De+Pace Adding a second router would cause more issues than it resolves, you would be better adding a gigabit network switch.

Thanks for your prompt reply🙏. I have no idea what that is but I'll have a look on a google search. I assume I just plug it in? Does this act like a wifi booster as the one I have now doen't work🤷‍♂️ I would like to be able to have the same speed in my sun lounge as I have in my living room if possible🤔

The Max Hub is WiFi 6: Max 'pods' are WiFi 5 and loose speed anyway when relaying signal.

To replicate WiFi from the Hub in another location you would need to run ethernet cable between the spaces and then put a WiFi 6 wireless access point (not another router*) on the end of the cable.

The ethernet switch which @GD1 mentioned is not a wireless device: it's how you get multiple wired connections from a single cable.

*unless the router has a manually selected access point mode

@Steve+De+Pacethat unit is a 5 port giabit managed ethernet switch which will give you 4 extra ethernet ports but if you just need a simpke switch to increase the number of poorts buy a simple unmanaged variety like the GS105 from Netgear.

However going back to your orginal post you mention you have a white Sky Max hub and you have a white Sky booster and Sky Q boxes that sounds to be the problem. The new Sky Max hub is incompatable with the older Sky Q system that your white booster and Q boxes use. Unless the boister is required to conect a Sky Q box switch it off it cannot be used to extend your new hub's signal. The new hub requires a matched extender Sky supply as part of the WIFI Max add-on if they are required to get speeds over 25Mb/s in every room.

Thank you for the info🙏. I forgot that I would need an extra port for the Lan cable from the router so I think I will get an 8 port to be sure. I now fully understand what I need in my sunlounge and it will definately be an 8 port gigabit switch....all I need to know now is which one I need🤔. I want a good unmanaged futureproof reasonably priced giggabit switch. Can you recommend one please🙏

Can you please advise on a good gigabit switch🙏. I am looking at the BrosTrend 8 port 2.5G multi-gigabit as I am trying to future proof but am I going O.T.T? The white wifi extender I have is a sky booster 4. Is this the problem do you think?

Absolutely no point paying for 2.5Gbs, and particularly from an unknown manufacturer.

Unmanaged gigabit ethernet from a known brand name is almost certainly preferable: personally I've always used Netgear switches because their metal cases are extremely robust.

Is that the pro safe one or is there no difference? I thought I had found the one after intense searching and reading last night with the BrosTrend but since your reply I thought it best (like you said) to stay with a "brand" and I did look at this one and was impressed by the reviews but the one I looked at was the Pro Safe. What that means I have no idea but hoping someone can enlighten me before I buy🙏
