FTTC broadband

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my broadband connection from ADSL. Hower due to the layout of our apartment, I do not want to have fibre optic cables running round. Do Sky do a part fibre option which means the existing internal phone line can be used?

Hi,

Assuming you have already checked the availability of FTTP, and it's available.

The openreach engineer is only required to install the new fibre optic cable from outside through a external wall, terminating inside near a power socket to power the openreach ONT.

He will connect a standard CAT5E Patch ethenet cable between the openreach ONT and the sky hub to test the connection.

They are not required to install other internal wiring. That remains the rsponsibility of the customer.

Any exhisting phone wires in the customers property (old copper phone wires) will be redundant, as the customers phone must be plugged into the rear of the sky router to function.

The sky router needs to be placed centrally within the property, so the wifi signal is equaly balanced. The wifi signal will not go through brick/concrete walls. The MAX HUB/SR213 uses the latest WIFI6 5G wireless network. If your wireless devices are not WIFI6 5G compatible, you experience poor wifi and speeds.

Where FTTP is available it's typically not possible to order FTTC: this is working towards the eventual decommissioning of the entire copper network.

Note that's 5Ghz (as in frequency) rather than '5G' (which is the fifth 'Generation' of cellular technology).
