Disable 5GHz completely to feed 2.4GHz to mesh router

I am having issues with my smart devices (after upgrading to fibre!) and want to disable - not split - the 5Ghz output to have only 2.4GHz. I do not use the sky wifi as I have a Google mesh hardwired to the sky router so I need to get rid of the 5GHz completely to make sure that only 2.4GHz is passed to the Google mesh. Any ideas/advice please? Thanks

Sorry i am confused as to what you are trying to achieve. How are you feeding your Google Mesh via 2.4ghz? This would be pretty slow compared to 5ghz and even then you should have an ethernet backhaul not a WiFi based one.

Thank you for reaching out. I think I may be misunderstanding the "mechanics" of routers. I was under the impression that if I could only feed 2.4GHz from my Sky router by cable into my Google mesh router that the Google router would then run the mesh at 2.4GHz (I only want 2.4GHz as I have a mesh, the speed is fine and I have a lot of smart appliances that will only run on 2.4GHz, so I don't need or want 5GHz).

However, it seems that the Google mesh router will still output both 2.4 and 5 GHz and it is not possible ( to the best of my knowledge) to split he Google mesh router output into two SSIDs, one at 2.4GHz and one at 5GHz. My impossible dream is dead. Regards.

@Cymrug if your Google mesh is connected by an ethernet cable you are not using the Sky hub's wifi for that link . Why not disable the Sky hub's 5GHz WiFi leaving its 2.4GHz band for your smart devices to link to and use the Google's dualband WiFi for your other devices?

The only think to ensure is the two systems dont use the same or adjacent 2.4GHz channel which they shouldn't but can happen. If you have a black Sky hub you can manually set the channel or hopefully the Google system has an optimisation feature to avoid interference.

Thanks for reaching out. Your suggestion is good but the area of my property, with out-buildings, is too great for a single router to cover which is why I have installed the mesh system.

I get a good signal strength across the mesh and I realise (now) that the mesh output would still be dual band if it is ethernet cabled to the sky router.

if I cannot create 2 SSIDs on the mesh then I will have to take pot luck with the 2.4GHz smart devices. Regards
