If wired devices aren't exceeding 100Mbps it's either the device or the Ethernet cable. All Ethernet ports on the Sky router are gigabit as already mentioned.

Hi all. New customer and first time poster. Having a couple of issues with WiFi and my previous setup with another provider.

Our house has four levels (basement to attic) and as such I have previously setup a mesh network from Deco, comprising of main hub hardwired to router and two repeaters on two other floors.

With Virgin, I put the router in “modem mode”, hardwired to the first Deco

Hub and got my full speeds (150MB) all over the house pretty seamlessly. I also have a four way Ethernet switch hardwired into the same hub for things I want hardwired (Xbox etc)

With the new Sky setup, I get 500MB (approx 450) when I connect a device to the router via wifi, but of course its range isn’t sufficient to be the only broadcast source with the layout of our property.

Since plugging in my mesh network main hub and getting everything setup, I now realise that the router doesn’t have a modem mode, and the four Ethernet ports on the back of the sky router are all capped at 100MB, which means my mesh network is capped at the same.

Plus, all traffic across the whole network is now going through one capped Ethernet port, so it’s not ideal. It also means that devices I want hardwired, not for range reasons but for stability etc (Xbox), are also capped at 100MB.

Two questions then:

Can anything be done with my current hardware setup to unleash its full speed across the network? Any hidden settings on the router that un-cap the speeds for hardwiring etc or force it into modem mode.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a basic affordable modem that fits the bill? It doesn’t have to broadcast, my mesh will do that I think.

If I need to buy a new modem, all it needs to be capable of doing is pumping full 500MB speed into my mesh main hub to be distributed across the network. That and allow at least one Ethernet port for the hardwiring purposes mentioned above.

Thanks in advance for any insights. I’d be a bit gutted to be honest if I was getting 500MB but only in the lounge!

Matt

All current Sky Hub models have gigabit ethernet ports: they certainly shouldn't be capped at 100Mbs by default (although that's an option, labelled 'fast ethernet ')

Thanks for your response Timmy. Any idea why I'm getting nothing over 100Mbps regardless of what I plug into them?

Ok, thanks for that, I'll run a few more tests and see if I can figure it out.
