So I'm moving home soon and after checking the broadband speeds at the new property it seems I'm going from a guaranteed 49Mbps to 4Mbps.

I work from home so reliable internet is a necessity.

I'm still in contract, so will I have to somehow make 4Mbps work or will I have to cancel and face termination charges?

Thanks.

@Warkad

Your max speed possible would be 12Mbps but may go to 1Mbps with a guarantee of 3-4Mbps

I assume your current address is also fttc it would mean effectively you would still be on a 40Mbps profile but at a longer distance to the cabinet so sky may not be able to offer you early termination without charging a early termination fee. So your option would be to make 12Mbps until your contract expires or take a hit on the charges and see what else is available ie starlink, 4g/5g home broadband as supplied by three or look into any alt nets available

@Warkad As this is the only speed you'll get over the openreach network until they upgrade the area to full fibre you'll be stuck with such speeds unless there is an Altnet such as Virgi n Media, City Fibre etc who have a presence in the area, a search here will show if there are any other providers not using the Openreach Network.

I figured this was the case. But thanks for clarifying 🙂
