I think you may have to explain the situation a little more: 'too many' for what?

As a general guideline, individual ISPs/telcos don't manage 'lines' : that's the job of the national network maintainer (Openreach in the UK and OpenEIR in RoI)

Customer communication with these national organisations does have to go through the ISP, though.

Apparently there are many phone lines connected to this property and I need to contact my provider (Sky) to sort this issue.

I want to change broadband providers without loosing Internet for the day as Sky is pathetic. What would have been the new provider said that there was to many phone lines to this property and that I need to contact Sky and get them switched off/shut down. I only know of one phone line, it must be the previous owners that needed more. Problem is trying to speak to an actual person at Sky is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

No ISP can discontinue a broadband service if the bill is still being paid, so Sky cannot help with that: in fact they couldn't discuss another account which has ongoing service.

I'm surprised that your new provider can't identify your own line: any additional legacy circuit at the address shouldn't be relevant to your switch.
