Hi

Please bear with me as I am a tech dumbie - I've read a number of posts which talk about DHCP / IPv6 / switches and have no real idea how these work.

Current set-up:

I have sky broadband, the cable of which has been routed into my house via presumably an openreach outlet. That is connected to my Sky router. I do understand from my forum reading that Sky routers cannot go into bridge mode and so any mesh system needs to be able to be authenticated using DHCP 60/61 (I don't really know what this means). Google does not have this but it is the system I have and so I currently just have a google router plugged into the Sky router.

The house was completely rewired when I moved in and I specifically had CAT6 ethernet wiring routed to the office and to the top floor (3 floors).

I therefore bought two more google routers (not access points) and tried to hardwire these into the Cat 6 outlets. However these have automatically set up as a typical wifi point and into bridge mode with no way to change this (seemingly).

To make matters worse, my work system seems to only work with 2.4 and not 5.0, so it kept dropping when connected to the mesh wifi. I therefore have had to split the SKY network emitter so there is a 2.4 one only, and my work set up is now connected to that. Of course ideally it would just be plugged into the CAT6, but this seems to keep dropping intermittently when connected directly, especially when I am on video calls.

I've definitely noticed that video calls or receiving emails with big attachments that video calls can lag and drop etc.

Solutions?

I am willing to change mesh system if need be but from a search those which authenticate on DHCP 60 / 61 seem to be exorbitantly expensive!

Also it doesn't seem to explain why when I hardwire my PC into ethernet the internet drops.

It's actually so annoying I am considering leaving Sky, so any advice much appreciated!

In my opinion your best setup would be Sky router, then hardwired APs into your Cat6 slots around the house. These APs could be Sky boosters or 3rd party dedicated APs.

Can you please post your router stats we can check the line as it could be the source of the issues. https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/How-to-find-your-Sky-Broadband-router-stats/td-p/2855717/jump-to/first-unread-message

Hi Laura, Make sure your CAT6 wiring is solid and see if there is a mesh system that works with Sky broadband or improves performance https://www.tp-link.com/ph/home-networking/deco/ . If you rely on the 2.4 GHz network, you may need to maintain it separately or or get a new system that can work with both bands.
