Third party router instead of Sky Max Hub?

Hi all,

I have been with Sky Fibre for two months now and i can't really say i'm too pleased so far. It forces you to use the app to change the most basic settings, and logging into the router online prevents you from accessing settings. There is very little customisation with the sky max hub router and so i'm fairly frustrated.

Question: Am i able to replace the sky hub max router with a Zyxel SCR 50AXE Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router?

Fibre comes through an ONT into the router.

I noticed that the Zyxel router i suggested does not work as an AP so i don't think i could easily set it up as so without changing DHCP settings and static IP.

That model of router doesn't appear to have DHCP Option 61 authentication for WAN so it would not work as a replacement router if you are in the UK.

You could of course run it over the top of your Sky max router but that would mean changing its LAN addressing, setting static IPs, having double NAT etc.

With regards to the workaround - are you able to point me in the right direction as to how i may set this up?

So you want to connect your new router to the Sky hub via ethernet, ensure its IP address range is different to your Sky hubs range, then connect all your devices to the newer router. Then on the Sky hub you want to login to the admin interface & disable the WiFi radios.
