Hi

Just joined Sky broadband. I connected the Sky Max Hub to my ASUS router as the settings are already optimized for my house. My ASUS router's IP is 192.168.0.1 so as to avoid conflict I switch the SkyMaxHub default gateway to 192.168.1.1

This works fine for a day or two and then for some reason the Sky Max Hub will revert back to 192.168.0.1 Everything stops working then and I have to login just to change the default gateway address again. Clearly I can change my ASUS router settings but that will take a lot more time.

Any ideas why the Sky Max Hub is doing this ?

Thanks

I'd think the most likely reason is that the altered IP address isn't surviving a firmware update.

The SKY MAX hub it uselessbecause you cannot access a real menu for changes. It was designed for idiots (obviously not like us that know how to set these thigs up) The only things I have managed to do is change the hub's password and wi-fi access password. I needed to open port 21 for FTP but that's impossible as the service is not available. Cannot reserve IP addresses and none of my 4 wi-fi printers would connect. In your case I would suggest you use the ASUS router and ask SKY for the access codes to the SKY servers.

@norwegianwood while you can connect a third party router to Sky Broadband Sky decline to offer any support.

Assuming you have full fibre in the UK you can connect any router thst supports DHCPv4 Option 61 directly to the ONT and use the login string anything@skydsl|anything If your router does not support that method DHCPv6 PD works on most but not all lines. If you have a FTTC servicescthen you will need a modem as well. Asus routers are popular with forum members.

A couple of years back I was in a meeting with Sky's broadband team and we queried the lack of support for third party kit and were told that the number of customers using third party routers was very low. Sky does not target the enthusiasts market presumably because it is small.

Thank you everyone. I'm an interested home user but clearly no a techie to the levels of advice which I am getting from all of you. I've connected the ASUS AX88U directly to the ONS and that has solved the problem. It looks though I will not have be able to use my tel line then but am probably willing to pay that price.

Thanks
