Just moved from BT to Sky Ultrafast (G.Fast) 145Mbps FTTC and I am only seeing 94Mbps D/L speed. The router stats are shown below. Should I give it a few days before ringing Sky ? as the minimum speed should be 100Mbps.

Are all ethernet cables gigabit cat 5e or above?

What device is only giving 94Mbps

If its a windows pc then try the following to determine what the ethernet card is set to and increase it if possible

to check what speed your card is currently set to :-

Go to the icon of the taskbar
Locate the icon Internet
Press on network and internet settings
Click on Ethernet
Click change adapter options
Double click on Ethernet. There, you get the speed, it can be 100 mbps or 1Gbps. If it is the second, we do not have to do anything, but if it is the first we have to configure the card

Then If you have a windows pc you can change the card settings as below

In the window where the speed was indicated, you have to click on properties
Check that the option Microsoft network clients is marked, if not, do it
Click on set up
We go to Advanced Options
Search Speed & Duplex
Change the value to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex
Accept

@lee32uk to explain 94Mb/s speed test result is the maximum a test run over ethernet that a 100Mb/s port will report (ie 100Mb/s after accounting for network overheads). The likelyhoid is its the port on the device that is restricting the connection as by default the etherenet pos]rts on Sky hubs run at gigabit speeds and most ethernet cables support gigabit speeds unless the are very old.

Some devices like Sky's own Stream pucks only have 100Mb/s ethernet ports others like PCs have gigabit capable ports but are sometimes configured to operate at 100Mb/s.

Thanks for the replies.

All working as intended now 🙂 The issue was a network switch that I had my ethernet cable plugged into. That was only a 10/100Mbps switch. Plugged it straight into my pc 2.5Gbe LAN port and the link speed is now showing as 1000Mbps. I am now getting 151Mbps download speed, so pretty happy with that.

Interestingly this has also confirmed that Sky is still able to offer service over G.fast, which almost every other ISP has now ceased accepting orders for.
