Hi, I've recently moved into a new flat. I own the flat but the building is managed by a company. BT Openreach came yesterday without any prewarning to install full fiber. Does Openreach need to get a wayleave / approval from the building owner before installing FF? Openreach have installed it for my apartment and the other 5 apartments in the building but now the other residents aren't happy there are boxes installed above their doors. I had no idea when or what Openreach would do when they arrived so I'm trying to understand the process.

I'd have hoped that was arranged with the building owner in advance, but without some new cabling no-one is getting FTTP, and the over-door POE module (typically a small enclosure for Invisilight OFS rather than the larger weatherproof CSP box used for external locations) is a standard deployment topology in MDUs.

They should be happy they won't have to wait the usual 3 months it takes for openreach to wire up flats 😉

explains how this work is arranged and you can assume that the organisation that manages your block had agreed to the work being done. That they had not in turn told the residents in advance is an issue you may want to raise with them.
