Hi. Thanks for hour reply. However, it's not practical to have a cable running from the far side of my home office, across the landing, down the stairs and across the hall (that sounds like we have a big house, but we really don't!). I assumed Sky or Open Reach could fit an additional av. socket in the office (aka bedroom), but I can't find a way to request this on the Sky website/ App. The help chat just takes me round in circles.

I've tried connecting the PC via wifi but the signal isn't strong enough to support online meetings.

My home office is upstairs in a bedroom and the broadband hub is on the ground floor in the hall. How do I go about connecting the PC to the/a hub?

Booster, long ethernet cable or powerline are your best options

No, that's not something which either an ISP or Openreach will do: it's outside their remit. You'd need to get a local handy person, knowledge electrician or specialist network contractor.

Hence why I suggested a booster and/or powerline adapters as well which dont involve running an ethernet cable through your house. Alternatively you could run the ethernet cable around the outside of your house tacked to the brickwork if you live in a detached or semi detached house.

Hi James. Thanks for our advice. I'll be honest, I'd absolutely no idea what a booster is. I've just googled it and it looks like something I just plug into an electric plug socket costing between £15-£25.

Is that right? If so, that's a fabulous solution. Thank you!!!

@KathrynSky

So a booster would be a WiFi extender that you plug in and pair with your hub, it then provides a signal itself which effectively 'boosts' the signal in that area. However 3rd party ones can be hit & miss so you may want to consider getting one directly from Sky.

Powerline adapters essentially carry an ethernet signal over your existing electrical wiring, so you plug one adapter in next to your router & the other next to the device you want to connect via ethernet (e.g. PC) then you essentially have an ethernet connection without the cable going through your house.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/powerline/
