I dont seem to be able to upgrade from Ultrafast plus to Gigafast Fibre online, keeps telling me i'm on the fastest broadband at my address, however if I go online as a new customer I can sign up for Gigafast straight away?? Is there a reason for this? I can upgrade over the phone but will cost over £80.00 a month litterally double what I'm paying now as I'm an existing customer and that is with loyalty discounts but a new customer can get it for £43.00 a month, I didn't think that was allowed any more.

@coopey it is possible Openreach wont accept a new Gigafast connection on your ditribution point. Up to 32 customers share a connection from there to the exchange with a download capacity of 2.45Gb/s statistically this isnt an issue but they are starting to limit sale of products. You should be able to see by entering your full address into the following checker as the fastest service on the FTTP line Openreach Checker.

Another possibility is Sky are declining to pay another set up fee so early in your contract for an order at a discount price. In practice unless you have lots of people using loads of bandwidth you wont see much if any difference as very few if any apps can use 500Mb/s and even downloads rarely go faster as the bandwidth is restricted at the server. Only noticeable difference for most people is ethernet speed test results.
