Can I ask is there any one on here that does not use sky B/Band? Reason for asking is if as all the talk is going re sky Q being done away with and replaced by this streaming thing then I will be gone from sky. At nearly 80 techno is baffling me at times.

I used to have sky + or what ever before Q I could transfer things from that to my own recorder and edit it for my personal use only, then Q came along, that you can not transfer from so anything saved would be lost when Q goes, so all in all not very good from sky i feel. I have tv BB and talk, I was with bt but would not go back with them for all the money in the world, so to the begining of my question who is a reliable BB provider excluding bt and virgin if I have to leave sky? and i will if Q goes.

Out of all openreach isps sky has come top of the latest ofcom satisfaction survey.

So looking further afield @mae-3 uses Zen broadband but you pay a premium for their faster response times

Thank you for the reply, I totally agree sky is or has been very good for me since Ive had it, im only looking ahead IE if to watch sky I would be forced into this stream thing then the lot would go.

What will force you to stream eventually is skys current lease with ses/astra goes up until 2028 with ses themselves announcing no major satellite broadcasting "birds"

What makes stream good is its totally isp agnostic. It works equally with all isps. Sky q is optimised for sky broadband in that it requires both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi bands

Zen is very good and has won the Which award for several years running but they are more interested in those who have the technical ability to run servers and the like but domestic customers are welcome. This is one of the reasons that they are more expensive because one can run email servers, and web servers and you get a fixed public IP address with reverse DNS abilities on IPv4 with the standard packages.

For technical jargon, one will need to search Google or similar search engines.

Transfer for retention was never a right: it's just that there wasn't any good way to prevent this on coaxial/SCART/RCA-era Sky boxes outputting an analogue video signal over a legacy connector. The development and deployment of digitally perfect video data transfer over HDMI went hand in hand with HDCP specifically to prevent perfect copies being made because that's what the content owners insisted on to protect their products (and profits).

Reverse DNS does that query servers for the PTR to produce the Fully Qualified Domain Name . ? Just asking 😁

Yes, it does query the IP for its fully qualified domain rDNS entry which needs checking for email servers to confirm they match the DNS records.

I see my original post has been deleted, seems Sky still practices😉 censorship with the spam filter! I get less censorship on the radio amateur bands!

are you a radio ham? Thats something ive considered a lot living on the coast, and being ex Navy. Have VHF experience, and R/T but never got no further about doing anything.

I did state clearly I use the radio amateur bands so I am a licensed by Ofcom radio amateur and it is a very interesting field and hobby, good luck if you take it up. It is not too difficult an exam to obtain a license, 😀

Very interesting topic. In the 70's or 80's when they released the citizens band everyone had a cb radio but i only knew of one person whom was a ham scanning internationally during appropriate weather conditions i assume . Must need a large antenna
