Telephone plug is bigger then socket

Just had a new router and I am trying to plug in the phone line the gray cable only to discover that it is a different size to the socket and does not fit the wall socket.

What do I do?

If the wall socket is for a 'BT jack' (British Standard 6312 431A plug) then you'll need to acquire a microfilter. The plug on the 'grey cable' is an RJ11 and fits the ADSL/VDSL port on the filter,

The end of the gray cable is a telephone plug but it's bigger the wall socket but the other end is purple and so is the plug on the router

@Robertandgarry the colour doesnt matter. If you are still stuck post a picture of the connector and post it in the forum.

That suggests the cable is RJ11 to BT jack and perhaps the wall socket is actually an ethernet port (RJ45) rather than related to telephony or broadband, in which case the router doesn't plug in there.
