@Gemgemgem sounds like you are on a very old package and have a very old router which pre-dates the first Sky hub. That hub isitself is obsolete and its replacement the Sky Q hub is on its way to the scrap yard in the next year. You need to call Sky and update they will send you a current hub which is secure - using a router which has not had its firmware updated leaves you vulnerable to being hacked. All cuurent hubs have dualband Wifi.

Depending on the package you are on you could get a faster connection for less money. Sky do not require you to use their hub but usually will not accept a fault report unless the hub is connected as they need the hub as it forms part of their diagnostic system.

I have a 16 year old router. About 10 years I changed the router to a netgear30 router, I figured it would be better than the sky router as it was struggling. For the last 10 years the new netgear30 router has been fine, but a few days ago the Internet went down.

I used a ethernet cable to try and access the netgear genie router and sort out why the Internet wasn't working. There were no known issues in my area. When I tried to connect to my Internet it would say "connected but with no internet". I figured there must be something in the router settings, or a update that is needed.

But I can't access my netgear30 login. The isp username and password is wrong. I have no idea what it is.

So I decided to get back out the 16 year old sky router. On my Samsung phone I managed to connect to the Internet through that 16 Yr old router. If I tried to leave the room it would fail/ disconnect though.

My little sister tried connecting on her iPhone but just wouldn't work.

I know the sky router is very old. My netgear router should work fine but I can't access the isp username/ password.

Considering that the old sky router connected me to the Internet that means that there IS Internet just can't access it.

Now, we have been wanting to upgrade to fibre broadband for a while now anyway. I see that our house can get superfast80 fibre.

So. Should I ring up sky and tell them about the router issue and me not knowing/ remembering what the isp username/ password is? Get that sorted out and then say we wanted to upgrade to fibre?

Or do I just ring them up tell them what has happened but we want to upgrade to fibre anyway...so there's no point having to sort out the issue with the broadband router?

Our contract with sky ends soon. We are currently paying £22 for sky talk and broadband unlimited. But our download is around 3-4mb. So after years of that "speed" we figured fibre must allow us to get into the 30mbs at least. And considering sky are putting our sky talk and broadband upto £34 a month, its just not worth it at all.
