I am just using any distro of Linux that works, to start with like Mx Linux. I checked dhcpclient man page has an option dhcp-client-identifier string; wondering if that's the one?

Guess most Linux uses the same dhcpclient ....

Hi, I subscribed to the Gigabit fibre package, and just received the SR213-O2-Uk-wht Sky Hub.

I hooked the ethernet cable at LAN port to my laptop and got dhcp and logon to 192.168.0.1 the sky hub.

I tried under Sky Net to find any like PPPoE userid/password info to connect to OpenReach fibre but not there.

I know it's not the activation day yet but I was thinking to use those info to set up my Linux PPPoE router first.

Just wonder is there any other way to eventually get the info to migrate from the Sky Hub to my own Linux router?

I understand in terms of getting Sky technical support with the line, I would go back to hook up the Sky Hub for the baseline first, but I need to use my Linux router for normal operation please see if there's any advice/pointers?

Oh I am in England. My house is hooked to openreach fibre, and my current provider is using pppoe on my Asus router to talk to open reach which I suppose Sky would be doing the same as there's no change in last mile? Wondering if there's anything I can do to hook Linux or Asus router to Sky over Openreach last mile?

No each ISP usually has their own presence at the Exchange, Openreach don't get involved in the actual communication between routers & the line.

You will need to configure your Asus router to use DHCP Option 61. On Asus routers that is done by setting the WAN to Automatic IP, then in the 'Option 61' box you need to type the following; abc123@skydsl|abc123

In the uk sky uses client identifier option 61/sky mer instead of pppoe so you may have to ask the manufacturer if/how they implement dhcp option 61

Who makes and what model of linux router do you have

A screen shot of that field would be useful in context of other settings. The guy who scripted asus merlin seems to have implemented it on all rt ax and rt ac routers

Yup it should be in dhclient.conf file like below documentation.... I am thinking option 61 is client -id

Was thinking more about how it is represented on the asus router in the wan screen. The see it you need to change pppoe to auto ip in the wan screen and this should bring up the client identifier (option 61) field

I actually plan to use a Linux soft router rather than an Asus though I am using one, the RT58 something I remember. That perhaps is the fall back option ... I see in the forum there're many mentioning of asus router and I think that should work .... Will see if a Linux dhclient setup soft router would work ...
