For people with adsl openreach are introducing sotap which allows copper to the exchange to use internet calls. If you are on vdsl superfast openreach already have sogea so if you already have the sr203 broadband up the only difference will be your existing phone plugs into the back of your router

Sky uses the Openreach network, and Openreach Ltd is a division of BT Group.

All ISPs need to replace their legacy routers with models that support internet telephony: for Sky that's several million Q Hubs (plus all earlier units) and they will be doing so over the next twenty months. Some very antique broadband subscriptions may also have to be updated, but the underlying FTTC, G.fast and FTTP broadband technologies are all already capable of carrying the necessary data traffic.

Note that the current target for PSTN switch off is December 2025 rather than 'by 2025': that appears to be an unfortunate error on a BT web page.

When I switched to full fibre broadband in January of this year, the open reach engineer told me that all the old phone will be switched off by December 2025, and switched to fibre optic cables

As off september last all new broadband vdsl customers havd already been taken off the ptsn and moved to sogea. All fttp have already been using internet calls . The only thing is generally all settings for broadband shield and talk shield have to be started up again

Note that's not the same process. Copper lines will be carrying digital data to some addresses for many years beyond PSTN switch off.

Since the previous posts, the deadline for PSTN switch-off has been revised to January 31st 2027 and the BT web page linked above has been amended accordingly.
