Funny prices from Sky. I havd had the Sky Booster with my Broadband which cost extra per month.

The odd thing is the booster pods are free no matter how many you need for each room.. so why does Booster have a extra cost with the introductory of Max ? Do you have to send back the booster and ask for Free pods ? Confused.com.

@Ian2240 there are two different systems the older Broadband Boost bundle at £5 per month which comes with the Sky Broadbandhub model number SR203 AKA the hub 4 where Sky will provide compatable boosters if the customers ask for them because they are not getting 3Mb/s in every room, the boosters are loaned and normally there isnt a charge other thanpostage AFAIK. The only othercway to get boosters is if you have Sky Q boxes which wont stay connected without one.

Thecsecond package is the new Wifi Max which normally costs £7.50 a month, which isnt compatable with Sky Q boxes, With that you get a newer white hub model number SR213 aks Hub 6. If customers cannot get 10Mb/s (rising to 25Mb/s for the faster Ultrafast products) over wifi in every room in the house they can ask Sky to send an extender "pod". If after that they think they need more than one then Sky send out a trained Broadband Enigineer to check the set up who can authorise another 2 pods making 3 in total.

The hubs, boosters and pods remain Sky's property and customers are charged if they are not returned if you leave Sky for Broadband or they stop paying for the relevant add on bundle. The pods only work with the new hub the boosters onlybwith the older hub so if youbswitch the boosters go back and pods supplied if required.

Perhaps worth noting that there's a very definite limit on the number of boosters it's advisable to have: more than three is more likely to degrade a network than enhance it.

Also, 'need for each room' isn't a good way to think of them: 'boosters' are actually 'relays' and should ideally be located halfway between source and client. There's negligible benefit gained from having them in close proximity to client devices.

Thanks for that, could you please clarify you say Sky Max is not compatible with Sky Q box, so what's the point of updating, or am I being pushed to Glass ?

Sky won't currently supply Max to households with Q Mini boxes or Q boosters deployed to solve Q television problems. The proprietary 'Q mesh' dates from 2015 and appears to be incompatible with the much more modern Max hardware.

It is not that we think thet are not compatable that is what Sky's staff have told us. We were tojd soon after the launch last summer thst they were working on a fix but to date nothing has been released.

The rest of that list of kit should work with WIFi Max or indeed with the older Broadband Hub.
