Too expensive!!

Does anyone know why I pay £40 /month for just broadband?? This is absolutely disgusting and an absolute rip-off. £40 a month is absolutely disgusting. I'm sure it started. I thought about £25 and has gone up and up and up

@Deangleave01 Your bill details what the charges are for, if you're out of a discounted period then you need to speak to Sky to negotiate a new deal, nothing disgusting about this in any way shape or form as this is what you would have agreed to when you originally took out your contract.

A discounted period normally only lasts for 18 months thereafter will revert to the full list price. This will also have been explained in your original welcome email & is part of the T & C's you agreed to.

Well, yes: £25 is the price Sky charges for their 35Mbs social tariff broadband, which is essentially break-even after wholesale and support costs. Any ISP on the Openreach network has to charge more than that in order to actually make a profit, which is kind of the point of being in business.

It IS disgusting, gaslighting the customer only enables extortionate prices for average quality service. Even looking at the bill is discounted price and discussing with them will still put on a cycle of new contracts with increasing prices going back and forth. Having to pay that alongside being forced to pay additional freebies as that's default part of the package when the satelite and channels have not works for months. So yes it is disgusting for what you get when there a average providers elsewhere with cheaper rates.

@Berryb96 Nobody is gaslighting anyone. As a consumer if you are proactive you get the best deals but if you are lazy you will psy more. Applies to anything you buy.

Broadband in the UK is a highly competitive market and given companies like Sky and EE are basically reselling the same Openreach connections the services they all offer are pretty similar. If you dont like the prices switch simple as that its easy to do if moving to another cheaper ISP if they use the Openreach network just call the new supplier agree a deal and they do everything for you you dont have to speak to Sky. Hopefully later this year you will be able toswitch as seamlessly to ISPs using different networks but be careful as many of smaller Altnet companies are selling below cost which is great for the consumer in the short term but the company will go broke if they continue.

You will usually be commmitted for a 18 month period so the ISP can recover the set up costs so if you leave during thst period and you will have to pay a penslty. However with Sky they give you 30 days after the annual price increase notfication to switch without penalty but you will have missed that this year.

If you dont want add-ons like additional wifi kit dont buy them. However dont blame the compsny for pushing add-ons as they are in business to make money and theircsales staff are paid to sell services to you. The secret is research what you need and only buy that nothing more.

Negative. When I first fot broadband I was paying £22 a month, £25 after months, then £27.50 due to inflation. All of a sudden its £40. I have switched with three broadband where I am paying £11 for 6 months, and £22 is the fixed full price after

I'm having a similar issue £38.00 for 70mbps which is going up to £42.50 in October.
I'm looking elsewhere I've seen Plusnet £28.99 for 300mbps, however, I'm not sure what their customer support is and I've had no problems with Sky broadband over the past 10+ years.

Industry speculation is that Plusnet (which has actually been owned by BT Group for years) will probably be rolled into EE (also a BT Group brand) at some point.

The market has become more competitive since we took out our original broadband. I am in contract at a discounted £38 but have had to pay for boost at an additional £3.00 because the router does not reach the upstairs bedroom. What is interesting is that we have just had fibre installed in our street and we are being offered half the price of sky and four times the speed for 18 months. One of the alternative providers are also offering buy out. Just talked to sky and renewal offer is likely to be similar to what I am currently paying which looking at the comparison sites is not competitive. Seems even if you are a VIP customer you can only get a good deal once you have actually left. I am not sure how long you have to have left for to get one of their really good value new customer deals. Sadly after many years think I will be leaving Sky in next few months.

Mine too already gone up to £33 this year just for broadband don't even have a landlines, now due for another rise I April, bloody disgusting

£33.00 per month is a little over £1.00 per day.

Not bad I think for the technology involved.

Shop around and try to get a better deal if you think this is "absolutely disgusting" otherwise please stop moaning.

The 'line rental' pays for the data circuit (copper or optical) without which terrestrial broadband cannot reach the address.

£33 a month might not seem like a lot but £396 a year does, especially when there are more bills to pay other than broadband.
Sky will no doubt be putting up the price again before April.

You should have 4 weeks from the date Sky fomally tell you of the increase to switch to a cheaper service if you can find one with no penalty.

The issue I have with Sky is that they don't really have much care for their customers.
Telling us the costs are going up & if you don't like it find someone else is I think not really what people want to hear.
A more sensible approach would be to ask you to contact them and maybe we can find a middle ground to keep your present payment or even to reduce it. Maybe less internet speed etc.
The only reason I stick with Sky broadband is because I get a steady internet connecion, but I cannot afford Sky TV it's just too expensive.
I have been with Sky since the beginning.
