WiFi max

hello. I have tried ordering sky gigafast and WiFi max, the gigafast shows available but it won't let me add WiFi max. When I phoned up they said it wasn't available in my area but I could have WiFi boost.

it is the new router which I am after, how can this not be available in my area?

has anybody else had any issues?

Yes, it's been posted before. We think the issue isn't the geographic location, it's that an address lookup shows the property has Sky Q, and Max isn't yet compatible with Q Mini boxes.

The issue has been addressed previously via back office by deleting everything sky q.

Apologies for late reply . We may be able to escalate this for you but it may be quicker to call sky

Basically you need to say that you think there are remnants of the sky q install on your account which is stopping you getting sky max. Ask if they can forward the case to the back office team to remove any remnants/artifacts of sky q from your account 👍

After a 40 minute and a 15 minute call earlier they said they are sending a form off to another team and I should get a response within 5 days.

should I go ahead and order my broadband now so that I get a go live date, and then add max later on?

or should I hang fire to order in one go? I don't want to get an old router then a new one

It's getting a decent speed on WiFi I'm after. I'm getting 600mps wireless now with EE but my contracts up and not paying what they're offering.

but I know the sky hub 4.2 black, will max out at 400mps won't it on WiFi?

Not necessarily, but it's 802.11ac rathythan 802.11ax

I just think sky max is still in early development and whilst the max hub is wifi 6 the pods are wifi 5. But then again no devices really demand the full 1Gbps. If that is the case and you want that sort of speed you can buy wifi 6 routers as access points to blanket you house

@ScallyDeejay If you really want the router that is new, order SKY Max, but you have been advised that it is not fully tried and tested at present, with a few issues...

And if you have AX (wifi 6 ) clients then that is the router that will support them.

@ScallyDeejay the Wifi Max product can be added at any time but it starts a new 18 month contract. Sky send out the new SR213 hub and ask you return the old SR203 hub they provide to most customers. If you find you dont get the wifi coverage you need Sky will send out an extender pod if you call them. If you need more than one they will book one of their engineers to visit and if they agree you will get up to another 2 pods. The guaranteed wifi speed for full fibre is 25Mb/s in every room.

If you dont get on with the new bundle or consider it doesnt give value you can cancel within the 30 day colling off period in which case you keep the SR213 hub but should return any extender pods. This is how I have a SR213 hub myself. On my Ultrafast+ service both the SR203 and the new SR213 allowed devices in my main living area to consistently speed test at slightly above 500Mb/s. However speeds on the other 2 levels in my home were varaiable. The SR213 does offer higher speeds in some rooms but in practice the 2 pods Sky provided were not adding anything which is why I cancelled and currently most of my devices are using my own 3 unit Deco M4 wifi system..

Talking to the engineer who visited and from my own knowledge the reason why the Wifi Max pods were not an improvement for me is down to the layout of my home and where the hub is situated. The hub is triband and comunicates with the pods using a closed 5GHz band signal which had limited range in my home.. The simpler Deco M4 system is dualband and while only a Wifi5 system gives better results in distant rooms.

I've had the same issue. After switching from Sky Q to Sky Stream, I requested the Max Hub but have been told it's not stable with my Sky Gigafast broadband so I have to stick with my existing hub.

Does anyone know if this true? One of decisions to switch to Sky Stream was to also get the WiFi Max hub.

@Gazzer10 do you mean G.Fast? If so the Wifi Max does not have the correct modem so wont work. G.Fast which works over copper cables to deliver higher speeds than standard VDSL uses but requires a specialist modem which is fitted to the SR204 Sky hub.

G.Fast was a bit of a blind alley in broadband terms and Openreach has stooped rolling it out switching to full fibre.

No, I have full fibre Sky Gigafast at 900Mb/s. I was told today that high speeds with the new Max Hub are "unstable " which I find incredible for a hub that's supposed to provide higher speeds so not suitable and unable to order the Max hub.

@Gazzer10 thst is rubbish I am using a SR213 the hub thst comes as part of the Wifi Max bundle on an Ultrafast+ connection with no stability issues in the slightest. Indeed if you want wifi speeds over 600Mb/s you need the SR213cas thst is the only hub thst supports Wifi6.

There were early teething issues last summer those have been sorted.
