A one touch switch service has again been delayed

The ‘big four’ broadband providers – BT, Virgin Media, Sky and TalkTalk – all missed a deadline to implement a ‘simpler’ switching service.

Published 12 March by Ofcom.

Ofcom has today provided an update on its enforcement programme regarding the industry failure to launch a new simpler broadband switching process by the regulatory deadline of 3 April 2023.

Alternatively, the entire ISP industry was unable to meet both the original and revised target dates set by Ofcom because both dates were utterly ridiculous given the complexity of the task, and now Ofcom is trying to find out who's responsible....

@TimmyBGood In most part, the current switch of services on the openreach (OR) network works well,

but given most errors in switching are caused by human intervention,

be it down to the relevant customer service operatives,

or the lack understanding & clarity from the end user,

things certainly go awry with no easy comeback.

Given the number of smaller altnets emerging on to the market place, the general public are not going to be isolated from a potential loss of service / paying twice while giving notice or loosing longstanding landline numbers,

In theory, moving between an OR network operator & Virgin or vice versa, should have safeguards in place soon to mitigate any shortcomings, but in my opinion, it doesn't go far enough.
