we are moving home Bt checker give 8-16mb we would like to get nearer 65mb we are with plusnet, we have a lineline and phone, but we use mobiles mostly so could live without a land phone

whts our options?

@OFFICEBOY If the BT Checker here shows only 8 to 16mbps then no ISP can give you anything faster unless there is an Altnet in the area shuch as Virgin Media, City Fibre etc.

Can you post the full results from the link above? remove any address detals.

FTTC speed is almost entirely a factor of the distance over copper 'phone' wiring from the fibre cabinet (and to a lesser extent the quality of the wiring) : that's based on fundamental physics and can't be overcome on that technology.

Edit: if the address is one of the few remaining on an ADSL-only connection, it's the distance to the telephone exchange which counts and the top speed and curve is different, but the same natural law of signal attenuation over copper applies.

As @GD1 indicates, that would mean there's currently no Openreach full fibre infrastructure in the area, so no ISP using the national Openreach data network can offer anything better.

While waiting for optical service to arrive (which could be years, if ever) to get better speed you'll need to investigate other solutions such a cellular data or even a satellite internet connection. Note that the Universal Service Obligation figure defined by government is 10Mbs in and 1Mbs out.

I'd observe that broadband speed has a major influence on property pricing / rental rates.

we will be 4 miles outside a major city, yet the service is so poor the broadbad availability checker which i cannot download here reads a VDSL Range high 50 low 35 which is'ttoo bad

even the city is not in a current fibre priority programme ( must be because we are in the north of england)

will have to wait till in and see what we are receiving then decide next move

@OFFICEBOY Be aware, that the fttc for vdsl may not be available to you if all slots are taken up by other customers then it becomes a waiting game for availability. It does indicate on the BT checker.
