&lt;P&gt;Personally, on an in-support Microsoft operating system, I believe the built-in Windows Defender is adequate (and even that is potentially unnecessary).&amp;nbsp; As I've said elsewhere, there are no real 'computer viruses' any more: the antivirus industry continues to exist largely on badly-remembered history.&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;If someone with Administrator rights chooses to install dubious software then it's unlikely that 'antivirus software' is going to protect them: likewise with being tricked into giving up credentials or convinced to permit remote access, which is where the vast majority of computer crime now concentrates.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Edit: where a user chooses to open unsolicited email&amp;nbsp;arrangements which don't pass through an external commercial filter then local AV scanning may still have some benefit.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
