The Sky Advisor is wrong, splitting the wireless bands is common and works better because then you can put high throughput devices on 5Ghz band and IoT/cameras on 2.4Ghz manually.

I've never seen anyone have issues with splitting the wireless bands it usually works better than combining the wireless bands and allowing the device/mesh to do it for itself and get allocation to the wireless band wrong, and I've seen numerous and set numerous internet systems up in my life.

But the best of all worlds is to use a router that supports multiple SSIDs and allows everything to be done, split and combined which my wireless router does, fortunately.

Hi everyone

I have a green feathers bird box camera which requires 2.4ghz connection

my sky router is a combination of 2.4 and 5.0

there are suggestions of how to set up separate channels on the router, which I don't fully 7nderstand but my sky advisor says they don't recommend it as it can give problems with other devices. Does anyone have any experience of having done this, and did it. Cause problems. Are there any other workarounds?

Thanks all

Splitting the wireless 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz wireless bands is fine and you'll likely need to do it to get the cameras working. There is a document on the Sky site that explains how to split the wireless bands.

Hi, I have just come across this discussion from early this year. I have solar panels and my app for it is no longer working and my provider also said it only works with 2.4ghz. I just called Sky (before seeing this) and they said the same - i.e not recommended as it will slow everything else down. I am more inclined to trust your views and the document link submitted. However I am not a techie by any means and am not sure how strait forward this is.

How will I know if my router supports this? If I go on the IP address etc? Not sure what an SSID is. And more important.....IF (after splitting) everything does slow down in the house.....can I revert back easily? Many thanks for any advice.

After that I just clicked 'Apply' and in the main menu it is now showing the 2 but wasn't sure if I need to do anything else?

The only thing to remember is that if you are setting up a 2.4ghz only device that uses a mobile app is to make sure the mobile is set to use the renamed 2.4ghz ssid and that device will automatically use the mobile device settings

Otherwise set up devices as usual. Dual band devices. Tv's,games consoles etc, will see both ssids so choose the appropriate ssid on that device and enter the wifi password

Tv,' games consoles etc ethernet if possible otherwise use 5ghz

Ring doorbell , mobile phones, use 2.4ghz

HI I have a Green feathers camera that suggest splitting the ssid. I have reached this page and it seems to depart from the instructions. I am not able to make changes after clicking the edit button. Any advice appreciated. rgds Ianb
