If you rent you will need your landlords consent as a hole will almost certainly be drilled through the external wall. You msy want to remind tgem that at some point the copper phone line wont work when Openreach switch the old network off.and having full fibre will improve the properies appeal to future tenants.

Hi all

I signed up for Ultrafast Plus broadband and the Sky sales person said that the installation is split into 2 phases

1) Openreach engineer comes to the house and install a box to an external wall (nobody needs to be at home during this installation). Order tracking does not show a date for when this will happen.

2) Sky engineer comes to the house for final installation and activation. Scheduled for Jan 23rd.

I tried to find information on how these installations (external and internal) are performed but no success. I am moving in to a rental house and I am concerned if any preparation/constructionwork needs to be done to get the fiber inside the house.

Anyone know how is the fiber run to the external box and then inside the house? Do they use existing ducts? Aerial? How will Openreach chooses location if they do not have access to inside the house?

What about connection between external box and internal hub? Will they use existing ducts? Do they need to drill holes through main walls?

An exisiting duct or overhead feed should be used to bring the cable to your property unless there is access issues.

However a hole will then need to be drilled into a wall to bring the cable through and then an ONT will be mounted to the wall using two screws.

@GRIB wrote:

1) Openreach engineer comes to the house and install a box to an external wall (nobody needs to be at home during this installation).

That might be technically accurate, but

a) if they end up needing permission for additional work, such as digging, then the installation cannot proceed

and

b) without supervision the 'external box' (CSP) ends up being wherever Openreach sees fit to place it, rather than where it's acceptable for the occupants (and landlords)
