For FTTC, in the absence of a filtered master socket you'd need a plug-in micro filter.

Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which provisioning type is applicable.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.

Hi. We've just moved into to an early '70's house lived in by lady in her '90's, no broadband/wifi, but a couple of extension sockets - no central hub that I can find. Openreach booked in remotely by Sky to switch for broadband use next month, but will Sky Broadband Hub work (carried over from our previous house) if just plugged into old extension socket? Sky engineer has just installed TV on site, which is working fine. He reckoned extension socket should probably be ok when Broadband is 'switched on', but mentioned an adaptor - unfortunately had to leave promptly and forgot to follow up. Will remote Openreach switch really work or do we need an on site engineer. Any guidance much appreciated.

@KeithC2 if your order is set for remote activation then yes the sockets should work. However if an engineer appointment is shown in the My Order section of the My Sky app you maybe getting a new full fibre connection.

If possible use the master phone socket which should carry an Openreach brand if older BT or is incredibly old the Post Office. The adapter is a line filter you can find at most DIY stores this has a phone plug on one side and a phone socket and a socket for your hub on the other. It is worth getting a modern master socket fitted soon as old phone wiring can affect speeds.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond - I've tried to copy table but format's probably askew

We're not eligible for fibre connection, just ADSL I believe. Rather oddly, I can't find main phone connection anywhere in the house, just a couple of extension sockets. But hopefully, Sky Broadband hub will work once Openreach switch line over.

Featured Products Downstream Line Rate(Mbps) Upstream Line Rate (Mbps) Downstream Handback
Threshold(Mbps) WBC FTTC Availability Date WBC SOGEA Availability Date
High Low High Low
VDSL Range A (Clean) help Unavailable Available
VDSL Range B (Impacted) help Unavailable Available
G.fast Range A (Clean) help Unavailable Green
G.fast Range B (Impacted) help Unavailable Green
Featured Products Downstream Line Rate(Mbps) Upstream Line Rate (Mbps) Downstream Range (Mbps) Availability Date FTTP Install Process
FTTP on Demand -- Available --
ADSL Products Downstream Line Rate (Mbps) Upstream Line Rate (Mbps) Downstream Range(Mbps) Availability Date
WBC ADSL 2+ Up to 17 -- 10 to 19.5 Available
WBC ADSL2+ Annex M Up to 17 Up to 1.5 10 to 19.5 Available
ADSL Max Up to 7.5 -- 6.5 to 8 Available
Fixed Rate 2 -- -- Available
SOADSL Products Downstream Line Rate (Mbps) Upstream Line Rate (Mbps) Downstream Range(Mbps) WBC SOADSL Availability Date
WBC SOADSL 2+ Up to 17.0 -- 10.0 to 19.5 Available
SOADSL Max Up to 7.5 -- 6.5 to 8.0 Available
SOADSL Fixed Rate -- -- -- Available
Other Offerings Availability Date
VDSL Multicast Available
ADSL Multicast Available
G.Fast Multicast Available
Exchange Product Restrictions Status
FTTP Priority Exchange N
WLR Withdrawal Y
SOADSL Restriction N

@KeithC2

The details of your order that you will have either sent to you by e-mail or in your account message section contain ALL the information it will say, what type of broadband is supplied, if you are only

going to have ADSL then the package will be the Broadband Essential, it will also have speed expected,

your GMS minimum speed etc, ALL the info will be documented....

You say that you have taken your old kit with you, how old is it, do you still have the packing, ie sky used

to supply the older DSL filter's in the box so you may have one.

I had sky install last year for my father, the openreach contractor replaced the master socket

because i went there, asked him to do it, was no issue, he tested the line, could not get it working,

next day openreach engineer came, had it fixed in no time all outside work, did check, recieved text good to go,

plugged in router to new master socket, just left it alone, sometime later internet led lit,

checked the phone able to call out and in so no issues.

ADSL is slow, so not sure what you are used to from your old sky package.

But please check your documents ASAP, while you still have time so no shock's.

Hope this helps

Regards Jim
