Hi folks,

Recent convert to sky broadband (Nov 29th from BT)

I have Sky Q, and 3 mini boxes as well as one repeater box.

I’ve had an initial chat with a sky rep in this forum, who took a look after running a few tests, but then said I need to wait for the 10 day activation/profile optimization period to complete.

Now that period has (well) ended, I'm still experiencing 3 types of issue:

1. my phone (pixel) and tablet (samsung) rarely record a full-wifi strength, usually at best the notch below full.

2. my family all use iPhones and iPads, and the connectivity with these is even worse, lots of spinnning icons waiting for pages to load in mail and in browsers

3. one of my sky minis has a very patchy reception back to the sky box, lots of drop outs

Didn't have these problems when with BT, so am curious to find out if there's a config hack to help me improve my local network/mesh between all these sky boxes.

If there's a good guide to setting up a local sky mesh, then i'd be very happy to try that out.

I thought all my devices in a mesh would be plenty to ensure high quality connection back to the router.

Do i need an extra booster or 2, or is there some extra local config that’s needed ?

Also, why do the apples devices seem to suffer more than others ?

I’d like to get some movement on these issues, as I might have no alternative other than have to move again from Sky broadband, which I’d really prefer not to.

But with 2 people working from home in the house, I can’t afford to have a second rate internet set up here.

thanks in advance

Andrew

@Andyg1970 wrote:

Didn't have these problems when with BT, so am curious to find out if there's a config hack to help me improve my local network/mesh between all these sky boxes.

Not really, no. As I've mentioned before, although Q is a 'mesh' system, realistically it's a c2015 vintage version, and nowhere near as good as (for example) the BT WiFi 6 disks or any other modern hardware: its primary job is to sling the very limited bandwidth required by Q television itself.

There's essentially no user configuration other than varying location, which obviously is rather less possible for television boxes than for booster units. Unfortunately although there is AirTies software for mesh diagnosis, this is only available to Sky installers, and the hardware itself is otherwise entirely uninformative.
