Hi @Jennywren07

You will need to post more information. What speed, how have you checked this? Run a speed test in netflix etc etc.. who's your ISP, what router are you using..

Remember we are fellow customers here on the community and know nothing about you or your set up unless you tell us!

MikeAlanR

Hello, I was just about to start a new discussion but then saw this thread. I'm getting the same thing.

I've recently "upgraded" from Sky Q and all is well APART from watching live F1 UHD (channel 407). I'm watching in 4k and every now and again there's a very minor tenth of a second(?) sound drop, then another, then another, then, eventually after about 10 to 15 minutes the picture will freeze, audio continues. Switch back to F1 HD and everything is good. Go back to 407, still "hung" or a black screen saying "wait for your program to load". This has now happened two races in a row now and am having to watch HD on my 96 inch screen 😞

I have >900Mbps Sky broadband (SR213) and the puck is wired with Wi-Fi switched off, and I reliably get 85-90Mbps with the Netflix test.

Any suggestions? At the moment I'm very tempted to just go back to the "Q" box that has not yet been returned.

Thanks

MB

Some customers claim to get a pretty much faultless service on relatively slow broadband, others have endless issues on Gigabit fibre. There is no rhyme nor reason to it.

It largely seems to be dependent on Sky's server load and the particular server you get connected to, a process over which you have no control.

Some also claim to get better performance from the 1B variant of the Stream puck, recognised by the flatter, grey power adapter.

You can contact Sky for further troubleshooting and, if you can get through to an appropriately skilled member of the technical team, they can assist with network diagnostics, but you'd need to set time and frustrations aside in order to do that.

Your point about every household having different broadband and network setup is valid. I've actually had to reduce the MTU size on my PC to get the advertised throughput after "upgrading" from BT SmartHub. The only thing that changed in the network was the router, but that completely ruined the wired LAN speed. I'm a network guy so it's not a problem for me but you can't expect everyone to work that out.

I'll get onto Sky to see what they suggest but I'm REALLY sceptical that these little boxes aren't up to the job (4k, HDR in Dolby Atmos) either from a hardware or software PoV.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post.

MB

They are adequate at best, which is generally fine for the mass market that they are intended for, but if you are looking for a more stable, more reliable service then it's definitely hit and miss whether you get it or not.

I'm very fussy and a bit OCD about A/V performance and personally gave up on the pucks ages ago and now get Sky content via the NOW app on my own hardware. It's been a vastly better solution in terms of reliability for me.

Best of luck getting things sorted.
