Sky Stream versus Sky Puck

We want to watch Sky TV, including Sky Sports plus TNT, in a room well away from the satellite dish, and don't want cables running through or round the house. So streaming is our choice. I know we won't be able to record as we can with Sky Q.

I've been looking at Sky Glass, but I read that other TVs are better value. Do you get the same quality with the puck as with Sky Glass? The same range of channels?

Sky Glass and Sky Stream both run the same SkyOS so the experience of using the service is the same. Sky Stream via the puck is more flexible because you can attach it to any brand and type of TV you like via HDMI.

Your title is misleading.

Think you mean Sky Glass v Sky Stream puck.

The Sky Glass in its different formats of Sky Glass Air and Sky Glass Gen2 is a TV, with the Sky OS built within.

The Sky Stream Puck is a small device that only runs Sky OS that you can connect to any TV of your choice, offering the convenience of using an existing TV.

They both run the same Sky OS software, so match each other for their viewing experience.

In a number of combinations, you can have up to three Sky Glass TVs and six Sky Stream pucks in use at the same time.

If you do not want to purchase a Sky Glass Tv and use your own TVs with Sky Stream pucks, you can have six Sky Stream pucks in use at any time.

To watch Sky in different rooms, you'll need to add the Whole Home monthly subscription along with either a Sky Stream puck(s) or extra Sky Glass TV(s).

The most important factor for using Sky Stream, is having a good local network, preferably fibre broadband.

You can connect using wifi or ethernet if you prefer.

Sky recommend a minimum broadband speed of 25Mbps. Or 30Mbps if you add an extra Sky Stream puck or watch in UHD.

The realtime Sky Sports (BBC and ITV sport realtime when available) options will add a few more Mbps per Sky Stream puck.

Have you not considered Sky Q Multiscreen? Where the room is in relation to the dish is irrelevant.

Also consider NOW TV for all Sky content. Streamed to any device/smart TV with the app on it, in up to the same quality as Sky Q/Stream. It's often a lot cheaper too. I've been using it for months and find it much better than using a Stream puck.

@jpgkjpgk Just picking up on your comment about not being able to record on Sky Stream. In the main recording is irelivant on Stream as all the programs are already there to watch anytime, just as they are on other streaming services such as Disney+ or Netflix etc. You have a 'Playlist' which is in effect a reminder of programs you want to watch. The only time you need to 'record' is for 'live' events which the Playlist allows you to do. Slightly simplistic but hope you get the idea!

We are in contract, having received a new Sky Q box when we moved house in May this year. In retrosapect, we should have concelled my Sky srevice, and taken out a new one in my husband's name!

Thanks, but multiscreen would be an extra monthly cost. Also, our TV does not have a wifi input.
