I've just set up Sky stream on my existing tv... I watched the first semi final

ladt night and found I was at least 15 seconds behind terrestrial tv and at least twice a minute the picture froze fir between 2 and 4 seconds..!!! The. At other times the svrern pixelated ... !!!!! Should have used the sky glass tv to stop this or is there a problem with my sky wi fi but tests say it's working ok

Welcome to the world of streaming! What you are experiencing is entirely normal.

If you want the lowest latency then you should watch the football on Freeview via an aerial.

SkyOS which runs on both Stream pucks and Glass TVs is almost entirely server-based - all the apps are stored on the server, all the streams come from a server so there is added latency or delay to everything it does.

Sky offer 'Real Time' streams of BBC and ITV World Cup matches which are closer to 'live' but still a few seconds behind. It's just the nature of streaming - it takes longer to encode, upload and output than a linear broadcast on Freeview, Freesat or Sky's satellite services.

Oh thank you... so why does no one inform you of these things when selling a product to me..??? I haven't used the sky glass tv but used my existing tv... another thing I was t told that I didn't need the extra expense of a sky glass tv... I've now got a booster near to my tv in the hope this at least stops the picture from freezing and pixelating ...

If you choose a streaming service then you need to do due research a streaming service by the very nature of the internet will always have a delay over terrestrial broadcasting for example.

You also need to ensure the puck has adequet wifi speed, on the puck open the netflix app, go to Get Help and run connection test, what speed is being reported?

One of the best things my late father taught me was to never trust a salesperson. From any company.

If you want a product or a service, it's always best to do your own independent research, especially these days.

Sky's streaming service can be and is confusing for many people, even some Sky staff, so you're not alone. A lot of people think that Sky Glass is the name of Sky's streaming service rather than the name of Sky's branded TV hardware. If you already have your own perfectly good TV then you only need a Stream puck attached to it. Both pucks and Glass TVs run the same SkyOS which receives the actual streamed service.

It's also worth noting for anyone thinking of signing up to a streamed Sky subscription that you may have to be prepared to do more of your own troubleshooting in order to get the service and hardware functioning adequately. Glass and Stream pucks are self-install with no engineer support, and they rely entirely on you providing a fast and stable enough broadband connection in order for them to function.

Hopefully the booster will help your freezing and pixellation, but alternatively, an ethernet connection direct to your router may be better.
