@Angel_Aka A further thought after reflecting on your helpful reply.
The clarification about Whole Home has definitely made Sky Stream more attractive than I first thought, so thank you for that.
I've been trying to compare what I think would be a genuinely like-for-like package for our household.
At the moment I think I'm comparing something like:
Apps (~£90/month)
NOW Sports + Ultra Boost
Entertainment & HBO Max
TNT Sports
Netflix Premium
Google TV devices throughout the house
Sky (~£105/month)
Ultimate TV
Sky Sports
TNT Sports
UHD
Netflix Premium
Disney+ Premium
HBO Max Premium
Whole Home (3 pucks)
So I don't actually think this is really a price comparison anymore. It's more a question of whether Sky's integrated experience (Playlist, live pause/rewind, one interface, etc.) is worth roughly another £15 per month.
Have I missed anything significant in that comparison, or misunderstood any of the packages? I'd genuinely welcome any thoughts from people who have lived with Sky Stream for a while before I make my final decision in August.

Dear Sky,

I thought it might be useful to provide some feedback from someone who has spent the last few weeks comparing Sky Stream with alternative TV platforms.

My EE broadband and TV contract ends on 26 August 2026 and, having recently moved to Starlink broadband, I have been looking at the best long-term replacement for my television services.

At the time of writing, I have not yet made my final decision. However, after a great deal of research, an app-based solution has moved into pole position, despite the fact that I actually prefer many aspects of the Sky Stream platform.

I would happily pay more for Sky Stream because I genuinely value the integrated user experience, Playlist, pause and rewind functionality, UHD, Dolby Atmos and having everything in one place. From my perspective, Sky has produced an excellent product.

The one issue that continues to give me pause is the cost of extending that experience to additional televisions within the same home.

My wife and I are the only people in the household. We are not trying to support a large family, with different people watching different programmes at the same time. We simply want to be able to continue watching the same Formula One race or football match as we move between the living room, kitchen and bedroom.

With app-based services such as NOW, HBO Max and Netflix, we can move seamlessly between televisions, phones and tablets using the same subscriptions, without additional monthly charges. We are watching the same content, simply in a different room.

With Sky Stream, achieving the same flexibility would require additional Sky Stream pucks at an additional monthly cost for each television. In our case, that would mean paying around an extra £30 per month simply to continue watching the same subscription as we move around our own home.

As a result, I find myself seriously considering compromising on features that I would actually prefer to have—such as Playlist, integrated pause and rewind, and the overall Sky user experience—not because I don't value them, but because I cannot justify the ongoing additional cost for a two-person household that is not consuming any more content.

I appreciate that larger households may benefit from the current pricing model, but I wonder whether there is an opportunity to introduce a reasonably priced "Whole Home" option for smaller households. For example, allowing up to three televisions within the same home to share a single subscription for a modest monthly supplement would make Sky Stream a far more compelling proposition for customers like us.

I hope this feedback is useful. It is intended as constructive feedback from someone who genuinely likes the Sky Stream platform and is still actively considering it before making a final decision.

Should Sky ever introduce a more flexible whole-home option, Sky Stream would immediately move back into pole position for me.

Kind regards,

Without a decent connection Sky Stream rarely works well.

Personally, I've gone down the NOW TV route which has been much better, cheaper and more flexible for our household. Apple TV 4K boxes give the same playlist type functionality with all the apps we use and we get alerts when new episodes drop of our favourite shows. It has also proven to be much more stable than Sky Stream ever was for us, but there are many people for whom the opposite is true.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Again, I will re-iterate here that there are many people for whom the service allegedly works flawlessly, but for me it was just far too prone to various glitches and irritating flaws, all of which were out of my control. SkyOS runs everything from a server - there is very little stored on the pucks themselves, all the apps are server-based, so any small speed fluctuation or interference can cause issues with the Sky Stream service.

Despite me having Gigabit broadband and trying various WiFi frequences and ethernet connections, I simply could not get it to a satisfactory level of reliability in our modest Victorian terraced house.

Sky's integrated experience could be and would be excellent, but there seems to be too many variables in play with every household's differing broadband networks that it's impossible really to say with 100% certainty that it will work for you.

It works well for many and terribly for others. That's the simple fact of the matter. All you can really do is try it. If it doesn't work, return it. You get a 31 day cooling off period.

Another thought that occurred to me after reflecting on all the helpful replies...

One thing that's probably influencing my thinking more than I initially realised isn't actually the monthly price at all - it's the 24-month commitment.

Having recently come to the end of a broadband and TV contract with another provider, I've become much more conscious of how quickly technology and TV services evolve. In the last couple of years alone we've seen significant changes in streaming platforms, hardware and content.

While I appreciate Sky offers a 31-day cooling-off period, I'm not convinced that's really long enough to judge whether a streaming platform is something I'd be happy living with for the next two years. The first month is often spent setting everything up and learning the system, whereas the little day-to-day frustrations (or pleasures) tend to emerge over a longer period.

Ironically, the longer contract gives me more hesitation than the monthly cost itself. If Sky Stream were available on a shorter commitment, or with a more extended trial period, I suspect I'd be far more inclined to give it a go.

I just wondered whether anyone else found the contract length a bigger hurdle than the monthly subscription itself?
