Awful picture since upgrading t sky stream

Stop start all the time especially watching live television there's always a haze around objects it's like watching television in the 70's/80's with a bad aireal. It's driving me mad after having full fibre fitted I thought these would be a thing of the past. It's gone backwards.

Hi @Spikerh and welcome to the forum. One of the main reasons for a stuttering picture is the quality and speed of the Wi-Fi signal being received at the Glass TV or Stream Puck (not the speed being received at the router). This can be checked with the Netflix App (Get help > Check network) and is often much less than you might expect. The minimum speeds recommended by Sky are as follows:

HD = 25mbps

UHD = 30mbps

HD + 1 puck = 30mbps

UHD + 1 puck = 35mbps

These speeds assume there is nothing else in your home using up your WiFi bandwidth.

If your speed at the TV is borderline try connecting via Ethernet cable. If this is not practical you can use powerline adapters (about £40 at Amazon). Note the Ethernet port on the Stream Puck only supports 100mbps so don't waste money on the more expensive 1gb powerline adapters.

@Spikerh He advice @Fothergill1 may well sort your problem. If not have a look at your setup, try as shown below.......

The puck must be on its own not touching any other object and has clear space around it.

It is stood on a wooden shelf not a glass one

It is as far away as possible from other electrical equipment especially sound bars.

It has a clear line of sight to your router

Sorry @Stephen+Mourton , that's absolute rubbish, it'll work fine in any of the above conditions and doesn't need line-of-sight to the router if the signal is strong enough.

I agree. Nonsense. My puck was on a glass shelf right next to a BluRay player (sometimes on top of it) and an Android box, and sat about an inch above an amplifier on the shelf below. It never suffered from interference.

I am glad that you have found that works for you even without my suggestions. My suggestions are not designed to be a answer for everyone as there can be a variety of other reasons. However that is not everyone's opinion. When I had reception problems of my own but good WiFi, a Sky advisor made those suggestions to me and they worked. In addition as some of you have rather unkindly mentioned that it is often offered by me as a solution, that is because I have had numerous comments from subscribers saying it fixed it for them. If not I would never keep suggesting it.

I would like to remind you this is not a social media site where rudeness is common, I and others on here are just customers trying to help.

All of my 3 Pucks are sat next to soundbars without interference or loss of WiFi connection.

I'd imagine that the majority of Pucks are sat on glass shelves as that is what the majority of TV stands consist of.

It being stood on a wooden shelf rather than glass certainly isn't true at all. I used to have my puck on a shelf of a wooden TV stand, and whilst positioned there, the puck did suffer from Wifi interference and required powerline adapters for it to function properly. I'd say the more accurate advice is that it being on an enclosed shelf on any type of TV stand or cabinet has the potential to cause Wi-Fi interference.

Since i've moved the puck to a completely different room, which is further away from the router, the puck works perfectly fine via Wifi, albeit its not on an enclosed shelf on a stand anymore but its still sat right next to a TV and games console.

@martswain These are not my words but what is recommended on line if having picture problem.

Technically no, it does not require a direct line of sight to work, but it is strongly recommended for the best performance if you are using Wi-Fi.

Here is how the Sky Stream puck handles connectivity:

Wi-Fi Vulnerability: The puck's internal Wi-Fi antenna is relatively small and poorly shielded, meaning it can struggle with interference from walls, furniture, and other electronics.
Placement Matters: Users often find that hiding the puck directly behind a TV or inside a cabinet significantly degrades the signal. For a stable 4K stream, having the puck "out in the open" and relatively close to the router is ideal.
