Sky Stream for my dad

My dad is he is 91, pretty good with technology, he's after a small box for his bedroom, as I've got Sky Stream & Glass 2, suggested he try one, he's agreed but tried ordering on-line via MySky & there website, when I get to ordering it says they can't do it as this time & to ring them, not tried it yet

I wonder if it's because he used to have Q but left Sky a couple of years ago, he had 2 email addresses registered with them, could be that what's throwing a spanner in the works

Anyway do you still get 2 weeks cooling off period to have a play & decide whether you want to keep it?

Also his router is downstairs his bedroom is above, there's no wall just a gallery, he's with Youfibre 140Mps will no obstructions, should be ok I think

@Steve93 If he left sky over two years ago the account on MySky would have been completely cancelled

meaning he would have to sign up from scratch as a new customer and not be logged into any previous account

he would also need a different email address unless he removes the one from the old account by replacing it with another

sky stream has a 31 day return window

Managed to resolve, rang Sky apparently there was an outstanding bill for £11 with Sky Mobile, couldn't order anything until it was paid off, anyway did that & the Stream box is arriving tomorrow, Essential tv £15 a month, no cost for the box 2 year contract

We'll see if he takes to it, hopefully he will, did say its not got a Hard Drive, told him no

One thing though, if you don't subscribe to Add Skipping, can you FFW through adverts on itv, ch4 & ch5 etc.,

We've paid itv & ch4 to skip adds, what happens if you don't, he says he's not bothered about adds, I can FFW through adds on ch5 but I have add skipping, if I didn't would I still be able to FFW through adds

Ad skip allows you to fast forward on ITVX, Ch 4 and 5 apps. Without it you will have to watch the ads.

@Steve93 Just to clarify you can't skip when watching live tv , ad skip only applies to the apps and Skys on demand content see the link below for further information

Thanks, He's already subscribered to itvx for year, I've suggested ch4 as well, then that's it, don't know why ch5 don't have a premium service?

I suppose it's cheaper than Sky's Add Skip £5 a month

Sky Stream's ad-skipping works differently to ITVX Premium and Channel 4+. Those two services remove the ads from all on demand content. Sky's ad-skipping allows you to fast forward through the ads on the standard versions of ITVX, Channel 4, and Five on demand content, so technically it's better value as it covers all three apps.

Thanks, we have add skipping from Sky, noticed on ch5 though it sometimes takes you to the My5 App or the Cloud to play back programs, very strange

Yeah, that's how it works most of the time. Most on demand content will play back via the original broadcaster's catch-up app. Sometimes things will 'cloud record' but will later be replaced by the on demand version from the app, it depends on how the broadcaster has uploaded the metadate associated with each particular programme.

Yes, it's generally older series and films that will cloud record and sit there for a good month or so before disappearing.

Its all down to the way C5 and its parents have certain rights across their many areas.

Not all C5 stuff gets added to their app and generally I have found all the cloud recording stuff never appears in the C5 app.

By the way for ad skipping.

I use ITVx, C4 and C5 apps regularly, ITVx and C5 most days and the Sky ad skipping add on works very well for all those apps, in fact not ever had any real problems that I can recall.. ITVx had a recent update on Sky and the FF zooms through faster now.

Any on demand content via Sky channels, from the likes of Sky Atlantic, Sky Witness and Sky Cinema all allow you to skip ads with a one touch button.

Recently, a month or so back, all the U set of channels On demand that do not go through the U app are also now allowing ad skipping.

You will find that the majority of UHD On demand content for the Sky channels, like Sky Witness and Sky Atlantic etc do not have ads inserted and so no ad skipping 'button' is required.

There is a lot of good help and help videos on the Sky Stream box itself, well worth pointing that out and spending sometime in there a few further times to get the gist and some later reminders.

Thanks for that very informative, didn't know it was old series that cloud recorded on 5,

also I think it's awkward when it does it from the my5 app when you want to skip passed the adverts, sometimes you only have to press the FFW button once to skip the whole advert,

other times I press FFW it skip the advert & move on about 5-10mins, you find your further on in the program than you want to be & have to RW to find the correct position, not brilliant

Do you think My5 will ever have a premium option?

I'd be surprised if they don't at some point as it's a good money-spinner for the other commercial broadcasters, but it's not something we're likely to see for a while from 5. They love their ad breaks...
