Puck Overheating

Been having the same issues as everyone else seems to have with watching live sport in uhd with stuttering/juddering, audio drops and black screens, one thing I have noticed when this happens is that the puck seems to be really hot to touch, would this have anything to do with the issues or is it normal for the puck to get hot?

Probably a symptom rather than a cause: heat is a byproduct of chips having to work harder.

Do you have one of the original pucks with the large power adapter? There were some indications that the newer generation of pucks (with the smaller power adapter) had better thermal control and some people have had better viewing experiences on live UHD sport channels with them.

Sky have never published any information on improvements or changes to the puck hardware other than that the latter ones have components from different suppliers, so you can take this with a pinch of salt.

It might be worth trying to get your puck swapped. There's no way of requesting the newer pucks though - they are not listed on Sky's systems as a different model so it's pot luck whether you get one or not.
