The other two settings worth changing are in the Start up and standby menus which are set the unitvto stay networked in standby and turn off betwork power saving. Both of those imprive start up,speed and reliability.

I started a discussion in September about the technical fault with Sky stream – freezing, reloading, iPlayer no sound etc. Spoke with somebody at Sky who seemed to know what they were talking about but time will tell. It appears that my Sky stream puck was attached using both ethernet and Wi-Fi and both were fighting against each other. So he talked me through going onto Settings (scroll to bottom of Home page) – network – advanced settings and it was there that I switched off my Wi-Fi which left the ethernet still connected. Very early days, but it might be worth a try.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you may very well find that the problems you experienced just happened to go away when you were messing with your network. I.e port 1 or port 4 although they are yellow, sometimes one of these is a wan port for fttp.

99% of devices will ignore the WiFi card if a lab cable is attached and resolved the internet via DNS. This is the same on TVs, computers, laptops, etc

So switching WiFi off on the sky puck is redundant, next time your puck says it can't connect to the internet, if you check the WiFi toggle, you'll see that that sky puck has automatically turned it back on, in it's attempt to self-fix.

You can safely ignore the WiFi toggle.

Thank you for your reply - I did check a while after to check and WiFi was and is still off. (It did state on screen about the internet/ connection). Our internet went down minutes after my Sky call but purely coincidence - we have a good, local based IP that got us up and running quickly.

It can't harm for others to try - having had months of freezing screens, black screen, reloading programme, iplayer sound etc. Had to restart the system using settings and resetting the puk with the button on the bottom too many times to count, several calls to Sky and after 48hrs so far so good. Only toggled WiFi off through settings/ advanced settings. No bubble burst - I'm ok if it has sorted the issues out - all of them . Thanks again.

This is why forum superusers always advise customers who want to use Ethernet to disable the WiFi connection in the settings.
