I am trying to watch a football match on Sky Sports 1 on Sky Stream. I have had Sky Stream for nearly 3 weeks and have been trying to use it for 2 weeks. Last weekend was when I first encountered problems watch Sky Sports. The channel kept on breaking. This is when I first posted a message sayign there was a fault. Since then, I have been getting a message in white over a blue screen saying there is a technical fault and you know about it and are trying to fix it. This has been going on for a week now and today, with Sky showing 4 matches at once from 2p, it seems that the situation is much worse and the stream cannot work. The picture frezes after a few seconds, sometimes up to 5 minutes and then the screen goes black. It's impossible to go back, return to the home screen or anything but unplug the puck and reboot. This is deeply frustraing. Thank good ness I have an ipad and can watch on Sky Go. So, why are you charging me full price when you have a technical fault that thate you can't fix and not warning telling us why today was likely to be near impossible for a large number of people trying to view a match?

As yours is the only such post today (and with relatively few in the past seven days), doesn't that rather suggest it's a problem at your address rather than with the platform as a whole?

Sky Stream does seem to be particularly sensitive to local issues generated by individual WiFi and internet connection.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have checked the download speed. It is 56.6 as provided under my contract which says Broadband plan Fibre 67 Full Works - Broadband add-on(s) Smart Hybrid Connect,Cyber Security Multi. Sky is operating fine on my ipad on SkyGo. The power to the puck seems fine and stabel, too. I have changed it to another plug to check it.

As a technical fault is stated when it is booting up, as I see no local faults at my end, does this not suggest that there is something writng at Sky's delivery, which is why I am receiving the technical fault message?

If using Wifi you need to make sure the puck is out in the open ( i.e not in a cupboard, behind the TV or on an enclosed shelf on a TV cabinet), or alternatively switch to using an ethernet cable and disabling the Wifi in the puck's settings.

No, because that would be affecting a substantial percentage of the whole userbase consuming the same content.

56Mbs arriving at a router doesn't leave much leeway for other device use and WiFi distribution losses.

Sky Go can function on a small fraction of what Sky Stream needs.

Thanks for the advice. Well, I think I'm just unlucky, then. My puck is not in a cupboard or sheltered from the signal and the device is connected to the internet by a wifi cable. Thepuck does take time booting up and I suppose from what you say, as it doesn't find the internet straight away even those it is always conencted, that might exoplain the technical issue notice. But I am inclined to think my suggestion is correct that my puck to not connect or was forced out of the network after a few moments from 1-4pm today becuase there was so much traffic. I had given up trying to watch it on TV as it cionstantly froze if if started at all during that period but tried again after 4.30pm when only one match was playing. For the first time today, the conection was reached and stayed. So, as Sky has not sent me the bags to return my equipent for SkyQ yet, maybe it's best to return to that device and not have to contend with the lack of access that I've experienced over the last two weekends?

Thanks, anyway, for takign the time to inform me of the other things that could have caused the problem.

I have experienced similar issues over the past couple of weeks with the puck regularly experiencing technical faults. Restarting the puck seems to fix things for a while before the same error comes back. I have 300 Mbps fibre broadband and am definitely getting this speed as I check it frequently, especially when confronted with puck problems. I have had this puck for over a year and it has been pretty relaible until recently. I have always used it on my wifi network. I have the same router that has always worked well with every other wireless device I have. Is it possible to get a faulty puck replaced? Or is there a new version of the puck being rolled out perhaps?

Sky Stream has frozen again this Sunday. It seems that Sunday is the day when it won't work. The match playing on Sky Sports Msin Event lasted 17 minutes when it first froze. On rebooting it continued for 5 mins and then froze. Now, on rebooting it freezes on the first screen on the home page. If won't move beyond this. I've checked everything based on previous advice. Is it just probable that in my area of London, the system just can't cope with the demand and that means I get locked out?

The simple answer is that a 56mbps connection isn't enough for HD streaming.

This is what is annoying with advertised internet speeds, the speed they advertise is usually never achieved as this is the theoretical maximum.

Go to a website download a large file, you'd probably find that it caps out anywhere between 2-7MB/s, that's more of a realistic speed measurement. Usually if you do achieve the higher end it's for a very brief time.

Also if say 67mb is the highest available in your immediate area this could indicate that there is a high contention for bandwidth in the area and your service will suffer during peak times.

If 5G mobile data is available in your area this could offer higher speeds, although contention is usually much higher on mobile networks.

There are a lot of posts on here concerning WiFi, true while WiFi can have issues, it's a lot more resilient as the networking stack has measures for dealing with packet(data) loss. I suspect the main issue maybe the way the antenna is aligned and positioned within the puck

If your WiFi kit is 2+ years old then it's a good idea to replace it.

Just to give you an idea, at the moment 2 of my 3 pucks are in-use, one is streaming in UHD, the other is probably playing some crappy show from ch5

One internet connection is peaking at 80mbs and the other around 35-45, so for 2 pucks that's potentially 125mbs, also not that they don't constantly stream, data is received in chunks.

If you only have 56mbps that means it would take your puck 3 times as long, that's gonna cause buffering, and less creative errors like "Technical fault"

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helps to understand how this kind of works in the real world

Although it's really important to remember that Mbs (megabits per second) is eight times the same figure expressed as MBs (megabytes per second) because there are eight bits in one byte.

7MBs is the same as 56Mbs: this frequently confuses Steam users because the Steam client rather unhelpfully displays speed in MBs by default.

I am having the same issue. Technical fault almost every time. The puck is basically unfit for purpose as it stands.

I have 850mbps going into it.

I think I need a replacement box.
