topic Sky Q in Sky Stream

Hi All - I hope someone can help.

I have SKY Q - with 2 additional boxes. The boxes are wired throgh CAT5 cabling so there is never any issues with satelite signal etc. Previously the additional boxes were always losing signal becuase of wifi. My problem is this is costing circa £150 per month and sky are only offering £127 for a new contract. I'm also having to use a hdmi modulator for the main sky q box as there wasnt a way to cable in to that room.

Sky stream with 2 additional puks will cost me £73 as a new customer!!! I live in a relatively large old house with thick walls - is the stream quality 100% normally?

Thanks in advance.

Bear in mind you won't be a new customer.

I've not had any issues with Stream quality either on my Glass tv or streaming Puck. Picture quality is arguably better than Sky Q. But there are others who have difficulties. How much of that is down to poor quality broadband is hard to judge.

Hi @Jamesd11 One of the main reasons people have problems with the streaming platform is the quality and speed of their WiFi. It is important to have sufficient and stable WiFI at the puck (not incoming to the router)

If you have Netflix on your Q System you can check the speed being received at the puck by opening Netflix and going to Get help > Check network. It is often much lower than people expect. The minimum speeds recommended by Sky are as follows:

HD = 25mbps

UHD = 30mbps

HD + 1 puck = 30mbps

UHD + 1 puck = 35mbps

These speeds assume there is nothing else in your home using up your WiFi bandwidth.

If practical you could also connect via Ethernet but the pucks only support 100mbps which is more than ample (I'm connected via Ethernet and get 80-85mbps with no streaming problems). If not practical another option is to use powerline adapters (about £40 from Amazon but don't bother with the 1Gb models)
