Customer owned puk

I have 2 stream pubs, one of which has went cuckoo since the software update. I contacted Sky who told me the puk that belongs to me is the one that's faulty, the other owned by sky is working but it perfect.

The puk I own has been in its box with only 6 months use whilst the sky owned one is used daily. It was when I updated the software on the puk I own, that it went faulty. So is the software responsible for killing the puk I owned, meaning I had to rent another from Sky and pay £39.95 for the privilege? Who knows but it does seem funny that a puk with hardly any use dies with a software update. It could be a coincidence but it does seem strange. Oh well, another £40 into sky's massive wallet.

I had a similar issue with a satellite receiver box, a missed update somewhere along the line meant that when I turned it on again after an extended holiday the software was no longer a version that could be updated to the latest version and it became an ornament.

It's a bit pointless keeping customer owned pucks IMHO. I bought mine for £20 when Stream first launched back in October 2022. I sold it for £80 on eBay about 18 months later! They seem to go for around half that now, there are loads on there at the moment. You may as well make some money out of it if you bought it as they're pretty useless without a warranty or much in the way of basic functionality without a subscription.

I can see the reasoning behind maybe wanting to keep one as a backup in case another fails, but loaned replacements seem to be delivered quickly and come with a warranty so it makes much more sense to have one of those.

The delivery driver took my faulty puck for return to Sky. It was all a smooth and painless process.
