Setting up SKY Stream on a non smart tv

Hi, I am trying to set up a package for an elderly person who cannot have a disc. I am thinking about Sky Stream but I've been advised to get them a non smart tv as this will be easier for them to navigate. Will this work ok, and if so can anyone tell me if I have to do anything speacial to make it work please? Thanks

If they've got already got a TV with an HDMI socket, that's all that's required, apart from reasonable fast, stable, broadband.

Hi Mark Thanks very much for your reply. Sorry I am pretty clueless about all this, just to confirm - I can get them a non smart tv with an HDMI socket?

@TG561 Do they already have a TV? If so how old is it? Is it a HD TV? If so you don't need to buy a new TV, as most modern TV will have at least 1 or more HDMI inputs similar to the image below:

It should be noted that any new TV is almost likely to be a Smart TV

I think you'd struggle to find a non-smart television set which isn't an antique...

Perhaps keep in mind that when a Stream puck is in use to view content the navigation built into the television set itself is irrelevant.

Oh that's a good point! So it really doesn't matter whether she has a non smart or smart tv, navigating the menu will be the same when she swtiches it on. Thanks very much for pointing that out!

Essentially, yes. There's the occasional complication when a television operating system throws up an on-screen message which cannot be dismissed by a Sky remote though.

If I'm honest, if they can't navigate a smart tv then they may also struggle with Sky Stream @TG561
